MLB Betting Preview: Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets

September 19, 2023

The Miami Marlins have playoff aspirations, while the New York Mets do not as both teams clash in the middle game of a three-game series Tuesday evening inside loanDepot Park in Miami, Florida. They toss out the first pitch at 6:40 pm for a somewhat early night start. The Mets defeated the Marlins, 2-1, on Monday night. The Marlins are listed as -160 in this one.

Miami Marlins Betting Preview

The Marlins (78-73) are a tough no one wants to see in the playoffs because they have some serious pop in their lineup led by slugging DH Jorge Solar, who has cracked 36 home runs to go along with 73 runs batted in and he is hitting .241 on the season. Miami is a very tough team and they have shown a ton of resilience this season as well.

They have a good enough lineup and they just need to get some of their veteran arms going and if they can, they can make a little run in October.

They are batting a solid .259 on the season and have slugged a total of 157 home runs.

They will send out 26-year-old Braxton Garrett who enters with a 9-6 record to go along with an 3.67 ERA on the season. He is definitely a strikeout pitcher and has amassed 147 strikeouts in 149.2 frames of work.

New York Mets Betting Preview

The Mets (70-80) season really ended before it started with some key injuries and while they have a couple notable players on their roster and in their lineup, they waved the white towel at the MLB trade deadline as they traded away two what they thought would be key veteran arms. They have not recovered and will be looking on the outside of the playoff picture when the season comes to a close.

They have had issues with consistency from the heart of their lineup and they have not been able to hit in the clutch this season which has hurt them coming out of the All-Star break when it appeared maybe they could make things interesting in the NL East from a possible wild card appearance. No one in the division was going to catch the Atlanta Braves, who clinched their six straight division crown.

New York can only dream of putting together a team like the Braves and it will be very interesting to see what ownership does in the winter as they figure out ways to bolster the team's pitching staff and help the offense.

The Mets will send out Joey Lucchesi who sports a record of 3-0 to go along with an ERA of 2.83 on the season.
