MLB Betting Preview: Miami Marlins vs. Tampa Bay Rays
August 30, 2023
The finale of a two-game series is coming up soon between the Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Marlins. These two Floridian teams offer great betting opportunities, as well as appealing offense.
Date: Game 2 on August 30, 2023 at 6:40 PM ET
Location: Loan Depot Park in Miami, Florida
Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview
The Rays are getting back to their dominant form after good wins against the Colorado Rockies and New York Yankees. They will have their hands full with the Marlins, as they look to end the series on a high note. Zach Elfin (13-8) will need his best on the mound if they want a shot to win, as he has an ERA of 3.55.
They have a strong batting average of .260 and they only allow .232 from their opponents. This ratio will need to be in full effect if they want a shot to win.
Their ERA (3.87), OBP (.331), and their slugging percentage (.447) are all great averages in their respective categories. They are also better in each one of those in comparison to the Marlins.
The Rays are a few games behind the leading Baltimore Orioles and need to continue adding wind to draw closer to the lead. This will be a tough test on the road, but they have the roster to do it.
Miami Marlins Betting Preview
The Marlins have been inconsistent in recent play heading into this series. They struggled offensively against the Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres, indicating that they will do the same here against a better team. Jesus Lazardo (9-8) is a good matchup against the Rays, with an ERA of 3.77.
They average .258 at the plate, nearly matching the Rays. As for ERA, it is a bit lacking for this scenario at 4.15, as well as their OBP at .314. Their slugging percentage is also a little low for a team with a winning record.
The Marlins are third in the NL East, but trail the Atlanta Braves by nearly 20 games. While they are probably not making the playoffs, they still pose a threat with their offense.
Game Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
According to MyBookie's odds, it appears that the Tampa Bay Rays have a slight edge in their pursuit of victory. An examination of the market suggests that the Rays presently possess a 58.5 percent chance of clinching the win.
Miami Marlins: -102
Tampa Bay Rays: -118
These two have great offense to put on a good show. The Marlins are at their best at home, while the Rays are solid on the road. The Rays defense will likely be the biggest difference in this game.
Final Pick: Take the Tampa Bay Rays to Win at -118
