MLB Betting Preview: Milwaukee Brewers vs. Minnesota Twins

August 23, 2023

Even though the Minnesota Twins are barely above .500 with a record of 65-61 they are the odds-on favorite to win the AL Central this season as they hold a five-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians for 1st place in the division which is also a testament to how bad the AL Central is this season. The Twins will be looking to split the series with the Milwaukee Brewers after losing game one on Tuesday by a score of 3-7. Christian Vazquez hit a two-run homer in the 2nd inning which also scored Kyle Farmer in what was otherwise a poor showing for the Twins.

The Milwaukee Brewers are in a three-way battle for 1st place in the NL Central as the Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs, and Cincinnati Reds are all within four games of each other, however, the Milwaukee Brewers are in 1st place in the NL Central with a record of 69-57 and have a 3.5-game lead over the Chicago Cubs for 1st place in the division.

Milwaukee swept the Texas Rangers on the road over the weekend and will be looking to sweep the Minnesota Twins at home in a two-game series after winning game one on Tuesday by a score of 7-3. Willy Adames started the scoring off for the Brewers in the 1st inning when he hit a two-run home run that also scored William Contreras. Adames’s home run was the lone home run in the game for the Brewers.

Milwaukee will have the advantage at pitcher in game three of the series on Wednesday as Corbin Burnes will take the mound for the Brewers and Kenta Maeda will take the mound for the Twins. Maeda has a record of 3-7 this season with a 4.13 ERA while recording 82 strikeouts while Burnes has a record of 9-6 on the year with an ERA of 3.43 and has recorded 155 strikeouts.

Kenta Maeda has not faced the Milwaukee Brewers since the 2021 MLB season, however, he has gone 1-0 with two no-decisions in his last three starts against the Brewers while allowing a total of 4 runs and striking out 22 in those matchups.

Corbin Burnes has also been impressive in his last three starts against the Twins going 1-1 with one no-decision while allowing a total of 7 runs and recording 30 strikeouts in those games.

BookMaker has the Milwaukee Brewers listed as -135 money line favorites at home against the Minnesota Twins for game three of the series on Wednesday afternoon. The teams have split the last ten games of the series 5-5, however, Milwaukee has outscored Minnesota by an average of 4.8 to 4.1 runs per game while the Twins have won two of the last three games while both teams averaged 4.67 runs per game in those contests.

The Brewers have the advantage in this matchup as they have been the hotter team entering this game, have the better record, and although Maeda has pitched well against the Brewers he hasn’t faced them in two years. I look for the Brewers to come away with the win in this matchup and get the two-game series sweep at home against the Twins which is why I am taking the money line for the Milwaukee Brewers at -135 on BookMaker.
