MLB Betting Preview: Milwaukee Brewers vs. San Diego Padres

August 26, 2023

The San Diego Padres have been one of the most disappointing teams in the National League this season and if it wasn't for the New York Mets they would be the most disappointing team. The Padres entered the season with an over/under win total of 93.5 wins and were expected to compete with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the NL West title with some experts picking San Diego to dethrone Los Angeles for the NL West title. However, the Padres have a record of 61-68 and are 6.5 games back of the Arizona Diamondbacks for the final Wild Card spot in the National League while losing four of their last six games including Friday’s 3-7 loss on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers in game one of the series. Manny Machado hit a one-run home run in the 4th inning while Gary Sanchez hit a two-run home run in the 9th inning that also scored Jose Azocar.

Milwaukee has the 3rd best record in the National League with an overall record of 71-57 and has a 4-game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National Central. The Brewers have compiled a record of 14-7 in August and have been one of the hottest teams in baseball winning their last six games in a row including a 7-3 win at home against the San Diego Padres in game one of the series. Rowdy Tellez accounted for three of the runs when he hit a three-run home run in the 3rd inning that also scored William Contreras and Willy Adames.

BookMaker has the Milwaukee Brewers listed as -145 money line favorites at home against the San Diego Padres in game two of the series on Saturday. Milwaukee has won six of the last ten and two of the last three games in the series.

Pedro Avila has gotten off to an excellent start to his career with an ERA of 1.17 while striking out 28 over 23 innings pitched, however, he has not factored into a decision to this point in his career.

Freddy Peralta has a record of 10-8 on the year with an ERA of 3.97 and has recorded 168 strikeouts. Peralta has won his last three starts this season allowing a total of 2 runs and striking out 30 batters, however, he lost his only start against the Padres earlier in the season allowing five runs and striking out five in the loss.

Milwaukee has been the better team this season even if they aren’t as talented and have one of the hottest pitchers over his last three starts this season with Freddy Peralta allowing an average of 0.67 runs per game and striking out an average of ten over those matchups. The Brewers have won six of the last ten and two of the last three games in the series. I look for that trend to continue which is why I am taking the money line for the Milwaukee Brewers at -135 on BookMaker for this matchup on Saturday.
