NBA Betting Pick and Prediction: Charlotte Hornets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

January 22, 2024

The Charlotte Hornets will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night with tip-off scheduled for 8:00 PM ET and will air on Bally Sports Charlotte and Bally Sports North.

The Hornets have been one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference with a record of 9-31 which gives them the 3rd worst record in the conference while having lost seven of their last eight games including Saturday’s 89-97 loss at home against the Philadelphia 76ers. Charlotte has been one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league this season as they are averaging the 3rd fewest points per game with an average of 108.42 points per game.

However, the lack of offensive production can be attributed to Charlotte being without key players in multiple games this season as LMelo Ball has missed 21 games, Gordon Hayward has missed 15 games, and Terry Rozier has missed 11 games. Defensively, Charlotte has been one of the worst teams in the league as they are allowing the 6th most points per game with an average of 120.39 points per game. The Charlotte Hornets will look to bounce back following the loss against the Philadelphia 76ers when they travel to face the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been the best team in the Western Conference this season as they have the best record in the conference at 30-12, however, they are coming off a 97-102 loss at home against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday which also ended their four-game winning streak. The success of the Timberwolves this season can be attributed to their defensive play as they are allowing the fewest points per game with an average of 107.55 points allowed per game, however, because Minnesota plays at a slower pace than the average team in the league it also leads them to be one of the lower-scoring teams in the NBA with an average of 113.38 points per game which is the 10th fewest points per game.

Rudy Gobert is averaging a double-double this season with an average of 13.2 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while also leading the team in blocks with an average of 2.12 blocks per game. The Minnesota Timberwolves will look to bounce back following the loss against the Thunder at home when they host the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night.

BookMaker has the Minnesota Timberwolves listed as 15-point favorites at home against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night. Charlotte has won seven of the last ten and two of the previous three meetings while going 7-2-1 ATS in the last ten and covering the spread in two of the last three games in the series. The Charlotte Hornets are 15-25 ATS overall, 7-14 ATS on the road, and 15-21 ATS as an underdog while the Minnesota Timberwolves are 21-19-2 ATS overall, 11-7-2 ATS at home, and 15-14-2 ATS as a favorite on the year.

Minnesota has been one of the best teams in the NBA while Charlotte has been one of the worst, however, Charlotte has been the better team in the series, winning seven of the last ten and two of the last three matchups. The Hornets are 7-2-1 ATS in the last ten and have covered the spread in two of the last three games in the series which is why I am taking the points with the Charlotte Hornets when they travel to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.
