NBA Betting Pick and Prediction: Detroit Pistons vs. Minnesota Timberwolves

January 17, 2024

The Minnesota Timberwolves will travel to Detroit, Michigan to face the Detroit Pistons at the Little Caesars Arena with the game scheduled to start at 7:00 PM ET on Wednesday evening and will air on Bally Sports Detroit+ and Bally Sports North.

The Timberwolves are one of the best teams in the NBA and enter this game in 1st place in the Western Conference with a record of 28-11 which also gives them the 2nd best record in the NBA. Minnesota has won three of their last four games and is on a two-game winning streak following a 109-105 win at home against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday. Minnesota has been the best defensive team in the NBA as they are allowing the fewest points per game with an average of 107.31 points per game, however, they play at a slower pace than the average team in the NBA as they are also one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league as they are averaging 113.1 points per game which is below the league average of 115.55 points per game.

Anthony Edwards has been one of the better players on the team as he leads the team in scoring and steals with an average of 26 points and 1.33 steals per game. The Minnesota Timberwolves will look to extend their winning streak to three games when they travel to face the Detroit Pistons.

The Detroit Pistons have been the worst team in the NBA this season as they enter with the worst record in the league with a record of 4-36, however, they are coming off a 129-117 win on the road against the Washington Wizards on Monday which also ended their seven-game losing streak. The Pistons are averaging the 5th fewest points per game in the NBA with an average of 111.75 points per game while allowing the 4th most points per game with an average of 122.58 points allowed per game.

Cade Cunningham leads the team in scoring and assists with an average of 22.8 points and 7.3 assists per game. The Detroit Pistons will look to build off the momentum following the win against the Wizards on Monday when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday evening.

BookMaker has the Minnesota Timberwolves listed as 12.5-point favorites on the road against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday evening. The teams are 5-5 in the last ten while Detroit has won two of the previous three meetings. The teams are 5-5 ATS in the last ten while the Pistons have covered the spread in two of the previous three games in the series. The Minnesota Timberwolves are 20-17-2 ATS overall, 10-11 ATS on the road, and 14-12-2 ATS as a favorite this season while the Detroit Pistons are 16-23-1 ATS overall, 6-12-1 ATS at home, and 16-20-1 ATS as an underdog on the year.

Minnesota has the 2nd best record in the NBA while Detroit has the worst, however, Detroit has been the better team most recently in the series, winning two of the last three meetings. The Pistons have covered the spread in two of the previous three meetings in the series which is why I am buying the .5 point and taking the points with the Detroit Pistons when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday evening.
