NBA Betting Pick and Prediction: Detroit Pistons vs. Philadelphia 76ers

November 10, 2023

The red-hot and streaking Philadelphia 76ers look to make it seven straight wins when they clash on the road against the lowly Detroit Pistons Friday night inside the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. They tip it off at 7:00 pm as the league continues their NBA in-season Tournament Group Play.

Bookmaker has installed the 76ers as an 8-point favorite.

Philadelphia 76ers Betting Preview

The 76ers (6-1) have ripped off six straight wins since dropping their season opener and they have been playing some of their best basketball in years under new coach Nick Nurse, who has gotten the players to buy in early. Reigning MVP Joel Embiid has been playing like a man possessed and he has shown a different look to his game this season.

They are coming off a huge win over their rival Boston Celtics, 106-103 on Wednesday night and that win might be just what they needed going forward.

In years past, Embiid would never really go on the low block but this season he is, and it is really opening up the offense. When he draws double teams it typically leaves wide-open jump shooters on the perimeter. Embiid is netting around a team-high 31 points per game and he is also hauling down a team-high 10.9 boards per contest.

He is getting a ton of help from rising star and point guard Tyrese Maxey who is contributing close to 25 points per game and is also looking to put the ball on the floor and go right to the rim. The 76ers shoot around 37% from beyond the arc and right around 32% from the floor overall. Philadelphia averages around 119 points per game which is about six points more than the Pistons give up on defense.

Detroit Pistons Betting Preview

The Pistons (2-7) have had a horrible start to the season, as they have dropped six straight games since winning two in a row to start the season. Their feel-good 2-0 start has quickly faded into some serious concern during this recent skid. They have not been able to hold their opponents in check on the defensive end of the floor and to make matters worse they can not close out games, including Wednesday's 120-118 setback to the Milwaukee Bucks.

They are the NBA's 20th-ranked offense averaging just 110 points per game but they are allowing 113 a clip. However, some of their losses they allowed 120 or more points.

On offense they are led by point guard Cade Cunningham who is averaging 24 a night to pace all players on the club. They do not have a ton of depth when it comes to scoring and asking the 22-year-old guard to shoulder that type of load is just too much at this point.

They need to try to keep the game low scoring and see if they can get Embiid in early foul trouble and get him off the floor.

Game Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick

The Pistons are 0-5 in their last five games and a dismal 1-4 in their last five games against the number. They are also just 3-2 in their road games against the spread and the totals have gone over in three of their last four games at home. Philadelphia is 5-0 in their last five games and a perfect 5-0 in their last five games against the spread and 2-0 in their road games against the number.

Embiid should have a monster night, we are backing the 76ers - 8.
