Portland is a well-coached team and they have just gotten out to a slow start. They typically have some lulls like this, but they can ill-afford to let this thing get away after only a handful of games to start the season. 

Veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon is their best player and scorer on the floor, and he is going to have to get some production from his teammates as the season goes on. It is too much to ask for him to carry this team, and he needs players like 20-year-old Shaedon Sharpe to step up after it was learned that Anfernee Simmons was going to be lost for close to six weeks (torn UCL in his right thumb). They need to make up another 20 or so points a night. 

Detroit will take advantage of this and make it an ugly scoring game, which would favor them.
