NBA Betting Picks and Predictions: Detroit Pistons vs. Portland Trail Blazers
November 1, 2023
The young Detroit Pistons get set to clash against the Portland Trail Blazers Wednesday night inside the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. They tip it off at 7:00 pm. BetOnline has installed the Pistons as a solid four-point favorite (-105)
Detroit Pistons Betting Preview
The Pistons (2-2) saw their brief two-game winning streak snapped in a 124112 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. They are led by an emerging star and young player Cade Cunningham, who nets around 21 points per game. But where he really stands out is his ability to get the ball in his teammate’s hands, as he averages around seven assists per game.
He looks to dish first and then score second, which makes him set the tone for this offense.
The Pistons will not blow you away with their up-and-down pace, as they are not an explosive scoring team. They can score over 100 and on rare occasions can pump in 115 or so. But against Portland, they need to slow it down and play a slower pace in this game. They shoot around 47% from the floor, while connecting on 40.7% from beyond the arc. They need to knock down their open shots because Portland can take advantage of missed shots and turn them into quick fast break points.
Portland Trail Blazers Betting Preview
The Trail Blazers (1-3) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 99-91 win over the Toronto Raptors. They were able to pull away from a very close game and go on for the eight-point win. Portland is a well-coached team and they have just gotten out to a slow start. They typically have some lulls like this, but they can ill-afford to let this thing get away after only a handful of games to start the season.
Veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon is their best player and scorer on the floor, and he is going to have to get some production from his teammates as the season goes on. It is too much to ask for him to carry this team, and he needs players like 20-year-old Shaedon Sharpe to step up after it was learned that Anfernee Simmons was going to be lost for close to six weeks (torn UCL in his right thumb). They need to make up another 20 or so points a night.
Detroit will take advantage of this and make it an ugly scoring game, which would favor them.
Game Odds, Series Trends, and Free Pick
The Pistons are 2-2 in their last five games and 3-1 in their last five games against the spread. They are also 2-1 in their road games against the number and the totals have gone over in two of their last four games. Portland is 1-3 in their last five games and 1-3 in their last five games against the number. Portland is also 1-2 in their road games against the spread.
Portland is banged up, and the Pistons will take advantage of that.
Spooky Express Pick: Detroit Pistons -4
