The New York Yankees get set to take on the Texas Rangers in the finale of a three-game set Wednesday night inside the Globe Life Field from Arlington, Texas. They toss out the first pitch at 8:05 pm. The defending champion Rangers went quietly this season and will not have a shot at defending their World Series crown.
Bookmaker has installed New York -111 on the ML.
The Yankees have had very different halves of the baseball season. They came out of the gate like gangbusters during the first half of the season but started to cool off around the break.
They have struggled over the last two months and have been unable to get into a groove and play consistent baseball. They can score runs in bunches, and they are sometimes a team that relies a little too much on the long ball. They have a scary lineup and profound power in their bats, but they also need to play some small ball occasionally, especially when the playoffs roll around.
They will hand the ball over to Marcus Stroman, who has had a decent season with the Yankees. The veteran hurler has a mark of 10-6 this season, an ERA of 3.81, and has been on an excellent little tear. He has won three out of his last four decisions for New York, and his team ERA is 3.82.
The Rangers were slow out of the gate and never threatened anyone this season. They will be on the outside looking in, and after their magical run in 2023, which saw them defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1, they have appeared to mail it in.
Offensively, they have struggled to score runs and have also been unable to hit in the clutch this season. They were a banged-up team all season long, and even as they started to become healthy, they did not have the horses to compete.
Corey Seager has enjoyed a solid season for the Rangers, as he has smacked 30 home runs and should be able to surpass his career-high of 33 before the season ends. He clubbed 33 home runs in back-to-back seasons (2022 and 2023). He has driven in 74 runs and is hitting .279 on the season.
Texas will hand the ball over to veteran pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who has a record of 10-7 with an ERA of 3.60. The Rangers would love to win a game here and there and at least try to end the season positively.
The Yankees are 2-3 in their last five games and 2-3 in their last five games against the spread. They are also 38-32 in their road games against the spread. The Rangers are 3-2 in their last five games and 1-4 in their last five games against the number. They are also 29-40 in their road games against the spread.
