NFL Betting Preview: Arizona Cardinals vs. Chicago Bears

December 24, 2023

The Arizona Cardinals will travel to Chicago, Illinois to face the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon in week 16 of the NFL season with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 PM ET and will air on Fox.

Arizona has been the 2nd worst team in the NFC as they enter this game with a record of 3-11 and has lost three of their last four games including Sunday’s 29-45 loss at home against the San Francisco 49ers. The Cardinals continue to be one of the worst scoring defenses in the NFL as they are allowing the 2nd most points per game in the league with an average of 26.86 points per game.

Arizona has also been one of the lowest-scoring teams in the NFL as they enter this game averaging 18.5 points per game which is the 8th lowest in the league, however, they feature an above-average rushing offense as they enter this matchup averaging 131.79 rushing yards per game.

James Conner has been the main catalyst for the rushing offense as he leads the team in rushing with 717 yards and five touchdowns while adding 17 receptions for 39 yards. The Arizona Cardinals will look to bounce back following the loss at home against the San Francisco 49ers when they travel to face the Chicago Bears.

Chicago blew a 17-7 lead in the 4th quarter as they allowed 13 unanswered points including the game-winning 34-yard field goal from Dustin Hopkins to lose the game 17-20 against the Cleveland Browns which has dropped their record to 5-9 this season and barring a miracle the Bears will miss the playoffs for the 3rd consecutive season.

The Bears have been a below-average scoring team this season as they enter this game averaging 20.5 points per game, however, they have been an above-average rushing offense as they are averaging 134.43 rushing yards per game.

Justin Fields has shown glimpses of what he is capable of as he leads the team in passing and rushing. Fields enters this game having completed 181 of 295 attempts for 1,976 yards with 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing for 488 yards and two touchdowns and the Bears will have to make a tough decision in the NFL Draft as they will likely have a two of the top picks as they also have the first round pick for the Carolina Panthers.

The Chicago Bears will look to bounce back following the loss on the road against the Cleveland Browns when they host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.

BookMaker has the Chicago Bears listed as 4-point favorites at home against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon in week 16 of the NFL season. Chicago has won five of the last nine while Arizona has won two of the last three meetings. The Cardinals are 6-2-1 ATS in the last nine and have covered the spread in three straight games against the Bears. The Arizona Cardinals are 7-7 ATS overall, 3-4 ATS on the road, and 7-7 ATS as an underdog this season while the Chicago Bears are 6-6-2 ATS overall, 2-2-2 ATS at home and 0-1-1 ATS as a favorite on the year.

Chicago enters this game with a better record and has been the better team in the series, having won five of the last nine meetings. However, the Cardinals have been the better team at covering the spread in the series as they have covered the spread in three straight matchups and are 6-2-1 ATS in the last nine contests. As a result, I am taking the points with the Arizona Cardinals when they travel to face the Chicago Bears.
