NFL Betting Preview: Baltimore Ravens vs. Tampa Bay Rays

August 26, 2023

After winning 24 preseason games in a row, the Baltimore Ravens finally lost in week 2 of the preseason this season on a last second field goal against the Washington Commanders by a score of 28-29 and even though the record doesn’t mean much I’m sure Baltimore will be looking to bounce back from the loss when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 3. Gone are the questions about whether Lamar Jackson will be a Raven long term as he signed a five-year contract extension in the offseason which will help the tension go away from both parties. I look for Lamar Jackson to return to the Lamar Jackson of old in the 2023 NFL season as he won’t be playing not to get hurt after securing a new contract.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have gone to one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time in Tom Brady to a quarterback, Baker Mayfield, who is playing for his 4th team in three years. However, Brady struggled at times at getting the football down the field last season as Father Time finally caught up to Brady while Mayfield may not be a significant upgrade. I expect there to be more deep balls thrown for the Buccaneers this season. Tampa Bay enters the season projected to finish last place in the NFC South after winning the division each of the previous two seasons and has an over/under win total of 6.5 wins which means they are expected to finish with a losing record for the first time since the 2019 NFL season.

BookMaker has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers listed as 2-point favorites at home against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday evening in week 3 of the NFL Preseason. Baltimore has been the dominant team in the series winning six of the last ten including the previous five matchups in a row. The Ravens are 4-4 ATS in the last eight and 2-1 ATS in the last three games.

Baltimore has split their first two games of the preseason defeating the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 20-19 in week one and losing last week to the Washington Commanders on the road by a score of 28-29. Josh Johnson led the team in passing completing 10 of 12 attempts for 145 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while rushing for 12 yards. Anthony Brown led the team in rushing with four carries for 37 yards. Charlie Kolar led the team in receiving, catching two of three targets for 61 yards.

Tampa Bay will be looking to end the preseason with a winning record after splitting their first two games of the preseason after losing in week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers at home by a score of 17-27 the Buccaneers bounced back by defeating the New York Jets on the road by a score of 13-6. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have not looked great offensively as they are averaging 15 points per game in the preseason while averaging 326.5 total yards, 274 passing yards, and 69 rushing yards per game. Kyle Trask leads the team in passing completing 26 of 38 attempts for 317 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Sean Tucker leads the team in rushing with 13 carries for 47 yards. David Moore leads the team in receiving with five receptions for 84 yards.

I look for the Baltimore Ravens to bounce back following their first loss in their previous 25 preseason games as they are the more talented team and have been the better team in the series, winning six of the last eight including the previous five contests in a row. As a result, I am taking the money line for the Baltimore Ravens at +110 on BookMaker for this matchup on Saturday evening.
