NFL Betting Preview: Buffalo Bills vs. New England Patriots

October 22, 2023

Two AFC East rivals will square off at 1:00 PM ET on CBS in week 7 of the NFL season when the Buffalo Bills travel to Foxborough, Massachusetts to face the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Buffalo Bills enter this game with a record of 4-2 following a 14-9 win at home against the New York Giants while failing to cover the 15-point spread as a home favorite in week 6 of the NFL season. Buffalo scored 14 points while compiling a total of 297 yards offensively which included 169 passing yards and 128 rushing yards while allowing 9 points and 317 total yards defensively which included 200 passing yards and 132 rushing yards. Josh Allen led the team in passing, completing 19 of 30 attempts for 169 yards with two touchdowns and an interception while adding 11 rushing yards. James Cook led the team in rushing with 14 carries for 71 yards. Stefon Diggs led the team in receiving, catching 10 of 16 targets for 100 yards.

New England enters this game with a record of 1-5 following a 17-21 loss on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders while failing to cover the 3-point spread as a road underdog in week 6 of the NFL season. The Patriots scored 17 points while compiling a total of 259 yards offensively which included 200 passing yards and 83 rushing yards while allowing 21 points and 348 total yards defensively which included 264 passing yards and 84 rushing yards. Mac Jones led the team in passing, completing 24 of 33 attempts for 200 yards and an interception. Rhamondre Stevenson led the team in rushing with ten carries for 46 yards and a touchdown while adding five receptions for 24 yards. Kendrick Bourne led the team in receiving, catching 10 of 11 targets for 89 yards.

BookMaker has the Buffalo Bills listed as 9-point favorites on the road against the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon in week 7 of the NFL season. Buffalo has won six of the last ten including the previous four matchups in a row while going 7-3 ATS in the last ten and 3-0 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Bills are 3-3 ATS overall, 1-1 ATS on the road, 3-3 ATS as a favorite, and 1-1 ATS in division games this season while the New England Patriots are 1-5 ATS overall,  0-3 ATS at home, 0-4 ATS as an underdog, and 1-1 ATS in division games.

A few years ago this was the marquee matchup in the AFC East, however, the Patriots have not been the Patriots of old once Tom Brady left, and ever since his departure from New England Buffalo has dominated the series winning four of the five of the last seven meetings and has been dominant at covering the spread during that span as well going 5-2 ATS in those contests. There’s no reason to believe that won’t continue in this matchup which is why I will be taking the Buffalo Bills -9 when they travel to face the New England Patriots.

Spooky Express Pick: Buffalo Bills -9
