NFL Betting Preview: Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons

December 17, 2023

A pair of NFC South division rivals will square off on Sunday afternoon in week 15 of the NFL season when the Atlanta Falcons travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to face the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium with the game scheduled to start at 1:00 PM ET and will air on Fox.

Despite entering this game below .500, the Atlanta Falcons are tied with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints for 1st place in the NFC South with a record of 6-7, however, Atlanta saw their two-game winning streak come to an end with a 25-29 loss at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in week 14 of the NFL season.

The Falcons have one of the worst offenses in the league this season as they are averaging 19.31 points per game which ranks 24th in the NFL and the passing offense has been a major disappointment in year two with Desmond Ridder as the starting quarterback as the Falcons are averaging the 12th fewest passing yards per game with an average of 204.54 passing yards per game while Desmond Ridder enters this game having completed 212 of 334 attempts for 2,376 yards with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions. The Atlanta Falcons will look to bounce back following the loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when they travel to face the Carolina Panthers.

The Panthers have the worst record in the NFL with a record of 1-12 and are on a six-game losing streak following Sunday’s 6-28 loss on the road against the New Orleans Saints. Bryce Young has been a disappointment in his rookie season as he enters this game having completed 244 of 417 attempts for 2,192 yards with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions which has led Carolina to having one of the worst passing games in the league as they are averaging 165.69 passing yards per game which is the 2nd lowest in the NFL and has been one of the worst scoring teams in the NFL as they are averaging the 2nd fewest points per game with an average of 15.15 points per game.

The defense has also struggled as they are allowing the 2nd most points per game in the NFL with an average of 26.23 points per game. The Carolina Panthers will look to end their six-game losing streak when they host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday afternoon in week 15 of the NFL season.

BookMaker has the Atlanta Falcons listed as 3-point favorites on the road against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon in week 15 of the NFL season. Atlanta has won seven of the last ten and two of the last three meetings. The Falcons are 6-4 ATS in the last ten while the Panthers are 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Atlanta Falcons are 4-9 ATS overall, 2-3 ATS on the road, 2-7 ATS as a favorite, and 3-1 ATS in division games this season while the Carolina Panthers are 2-9-2 ATS overall, 1-3-1 ATS at home, 2-9-2 ATS as an underdog, and 1-2-1 ATS in division games on the year.

The Carolina Panthers are one of the worst teams in the NFL and have been one of the worst at covering the spread as well as they are 2-9-2 ATS overall and 1-2-1 ATS in division games. Atlanta has been the better team in the series, winning seven of the last ten and two of the last three games while going 6-4 ATS in the last ten contests while also being the better team at covering the spread in division games as they are 3-1 ATS in division games. I look for those trends to continue which is why I am laying the points with the Atlanta Falcons when they travel to face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
