NFL Betting Preview: Carolina Panthers vs. Green Bay Packers

December 24, 2023

The Green Bay Packers will travel to Charlotte, North Carolina to face the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday afternoon in week 16 of the NFL season with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM ET and will air on Fox.

Green Bay looked like they had turned things around following a week 13 27-19 win at home against the Kansas City Chiefs which had extended their winning streak to three games and were in the playoff picture, however, since the win the Packers have lost their last two games including a 20-34 loss at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week which has dropped their record to two games below .500 with a record of 6-8 and now trail four teams by a game for a spot in the NFC Wild Card race.

Green Bay has been a below-average team offensively this season and has been a below-average rushing team as they enter this game averaging 21.43 points and 103 rushing yards per game. Injuries have hurt the backfield for the Packers this season as Aaron Jones has missed multiple games this season, however, he did return last week but only rushed for 53 yards on 13 carries and will not rush for over 1,000 yards this season as he enters this game with 298 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Green Bay Packers will look to end their two-game losing streak when they travel to face the Carolina Panthers.

The Carolina Panthers enter this game with the worst record in the NFL with a record of 2-12, however, they ended their six-game losing streak with a 9-7 win at home against the Atlanta Falcons in week 15. Bryce Young and the passing offense have looked awful this season as the Panthers enter this game averaging the 2nd fewest passing yards per game and are averaging the 4th fewest points per game in the league with an average of 164.86 passing yards and 14.71 points per game. Bryce Young enters this game having completed 262 of 441 attempts for 2,359 yards with nine touchdowns and nine interceptions while rushing for 210 yards.

The defense for the Panthers has also been just as bad as they are allowing the 4th most points per game in the league with an average of 24.86 points per game. The Panthers will look to build off the momentum following the win at home against the Atlanta Falcons when they host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon.

BookMaker has the Green Bay Packers listed as 5-point favorites on the road against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon in week 16 of the NFL season. Green Bay has won six of the last ten and two of the last three meetings. The teams are 5-5 ATS in the last ten while the Panthers are 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Green Bay Packers are 7-7 ATS overall, 3-4 ATS on the road, and 1-2 ATS as a favorite this season while the Carolina Panthers are 3-9-2 ATS overall, 2-3-1 ATS at home, and 3-9-2 ATS as an underdog on the year.

Carolina has not only been the worst team in the NFL this season but they have also been the 2nd worst team at covering the spread as they are 3-9-2 ATS overall. The Packers have also been the better team this season as they enter this game with a record of 6-8 and are 7-7 ATS overall.

I look for those trends to continue in this matchup which is why I am laying the points with the Green Bay Packers when they travel to face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon in week 16 of the NFL season.
