NFL Betting Preview: Dallas Cowboys vs. Los Angeles Chargers

October 16, 2023

The Dallas Cowboys will travel to Inglewood, California on Monday night to face the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium in week 6 of the NFL season with the game airing nationally at 8:15 PM ET on ABC.

Dallas enters this game with a record of 3-2 following a 10-42 loss on the road against the San Francisco 49ers while failing to cover the 3.5-point spread as a road underdog in week 5 of the NFL season. The Cowboys scored 10 points while compiling a total of 197 yards offensively which included 161 passing yards and 57 rushing yards while allowing 42 points and 421 total yards defensively which included 253 passing yards and 170 rushing yards. Dak Prescott led the team in passing, completing 14 of 24 attempts for 153 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions while adding two rushing yards. Tony Pollard led the team in rushing with eight carries for 29 yards while adding four receptions for 35 yards. CeeDee Lamb led the team in receiving, catching four of five targets for 49 yards.

The Los Angeles Chargers enter this game with a record of 2-2 following a 24-17 win at home against the Las Vegas Raiders while covering the 6.5-point spread as a home favorite in week 4 of the NFL season. Los Angeles scored 24 points while compiling a total of 305 yards offensively which included 167 passing yards and 155 rushing yards while allowing 17 points and 264 total yards defensively which included 238 passing yards and 76 rushing yards. Justin Herbert led the team in passing, completing 13 of 24 targets for 167 yards with a touchdown and an interception while rushing for 27 yards and two touchdowns. Joshua Kelley led the team in rushing with 17 carries for 65 yards. Josh Palmer led the team in receiving, catching three of eight targets for 77 yards.

BookMaker has the Dallas Cowboys listed as 2.5-point favorites on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night in week 6 of the NFL season. Los Angeles has won four of the last seven and two of the last three games in the series while going 4-3 ATS in the last seven and 2-1 ATS in the last three meetings. Dallas is 3-2 ATS overall, 1-2 ATS on the road, and 3-1 ATS as a favorite this season while the Los Angeles Chargers are 2-2 ATS overall and 1-1 ATS at home on the year.

Despite last week’s performance against the San Francisco 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys are averaging the 8th most points per game with an average of 26.8 points and the Chargers also are in the top 10 in points per game ranking 7th with an average of 27.5 points. The Chargers also feature one of the worst scoring defenses in the league as they are allowing the 9th most points per game with an average of 26 points. I look for this to be one of the highest-scoring games of the week which is why I will be taking over 51 total points when these two teams square off on Monday Night Football.
