NFL Betting Preview: Denver Broncos vs. Los Angeles Rams

August 26, 2023

The Los Angeles Rams went from Super Bowl Champion to having one of the worst records last season in the NFL with an overall record of 5-12 which led to them finishing in 3rd place in the NFC West behind the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. This season, Los Angeles has an over/under win total of 6.5 wins which means the Rams are likely to finish the season below .500 and miss the playoffs. Based on Vegas odds, Los Angeles is projected to finish in 3rd place in the NFC West behind the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.

The Denver Broncos had an influx of problems last season as head coach, Nathaniel Hackett, was in over his head and made a ton of mistakes which led to a 5-12 record and a 4th-place finish in the AFC West. This led to Hackett being fired and Sean Payton being hired as head coach after spending last season as an analyst on NBC. The high expectations the Broncos had entering last season are still the same now that Denver has a competent coach as they enter the season with an over/under win total of 8.5 wins, however, based on Vegas odds are projected to finish behind the Chiefs and Chargers in the AFC West.

BookMaker has the Denver Broncos listed as 6-point favorites at home against the Los Angeles Rams in week 3 of the NFL Preseason. Los Angeles has dominated the series, winning six of the last eight including the previous three games in a row, and are 2-1 ATS in the last three games of the series.

The Los Angeles Rams will be looking to win their first preseason game of the season after dropping their first two games including last week’s 17-34 loss at home against the Las Vegas Raiders. Stetson Bennett led the team in passing completing 15 of 24 attempts for 142 yards and an interception. Ronnie Rivers led the team in rushing with nine carries for 42 yards. Davis Allen led the team in receiving, catching all eight targets for 53 yards.

The Broncos have also struggled in the preseason losing to the Arizona Cardinals on the road in week 1 by a score of 17-18 and the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 20-21 in week 2. Denver is averaging 18.5 points per game this season with an average of 317 total yards, 183.5 passing yards, and 143.5 rushing yards per game. Jarrett Stidham leads the team in passing completing 17 of 32 attempts for 180 yards and an interception. Jaleel McLaughlin leads the team in rushing with 11 attempts for 65 yards and two touchdowns. Lil’Jordan Humphrey leads the team in receiving with four receptions for 56 yards.

Denver is the more talented team entering the season, however, Los Angeles has dominated the series winning six of the previous eight including the last five games in a row while going 2-1 ATS in the last three games of the series. I look for that trend to continue which is why I am taking the Los Angeles Rams +6 on the road against the Denver Broncos on BookMaker for week 3 of the preseason on Saturday night.
