NFL Betting Preview: Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers

November 23, 2023

Game one of the triple-header on Thanksgiving Day will feature one of the best rivalries in the NFC when the Green Bay Packers travel to Detroit, Michigan to face the Detroit Lions at Ford Field with the game scheduled to start at 12:30 PM ET on Thursday afternoon and will air on Fox in week 12 of the NFL season.

The Green Bay Packers enter this game in 3rd place in the NFC North with a record of 4-6, however, they are coming off a 23-20 win at home against the Los Angeles Chargers while also winning two of their last three games. The offense for the Packers has been their major flaw this season as they haven’t been able to get the running game established and Jordan Love has struggled as a passer. Green Bay is averaging 19.89 points per game which ranks 21st in the league while ranking 20th in passing yards per game and 21st in rushing yards per game with an average of 208.89 passing yards and 102.11 rushing yards per game this season. Things won’t get any easier for Green Bay as they will be going against one of the best teams in the NFL when they travel to face the Detroit Lions.

The Lions have a 2.5-game lead over the Minnesota Vikings for 1st place in the NFC North with a record of 8-2 which is also the 2nd best record in the NFL this season (Philadelphia has not played in week 11). Detroit is also riding a three-game winning streak following a 31-26 win at home against the Chicago Bears on Sunday and scored the final 17 points of the game as they were trailing 14-26 with under 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Detroit has one of the rushing attacks in the league this season with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery as they rank 4th in the NFL in rushing yards per game with an average of 139 rushing yards per game while also having the 4th best passing offense in the league as they are averaging 267.44 passing yards per game. The Detroit Lions will be looking to extend their winning streak to four games with a win this week and will be going for the series sweep this year when they play the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving.

BookMaker has the Detroit Lions listed as 7.5-point favorites at home against the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving Day in week 12 of the NFL season. The teams are 5-5 in the last ten while Detroit has won the last four meetings while going 8-2 ATS in the last ten and 4-0 in the last four games in the series. The Green Bay Packers are 5-5 ATS overall. 2-3 ATS on the road, 4-4 ATS as an underdog, and 1-2 ATS in division games this season while the Detroit Lions are 7-3 ATS overall, 3-2 ATS at home, 6-2 ATS as a favorite, and 1-1 ATS in division games on the year.

Detroit enters this game winning four straight in the series against Green Bay and has one of the best records in the NFL this season with a record of 8-2 and has also been one of the better teams at covering the spread as they are 7-3 ATS overall and 6-2 ATS as a favorite. The Lions have also gone 4-0 ATS in the last three games against the Green Bay Packers which is why I am buying the .5 point and laying the points with the Detroit Lions when they host the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving Day.
