NFL Betting Preview: Detroit Lions vs. New Orleans Saints

December 3, 2023

The Detroit Lions will travel to New Orleans, Louisiana to face the New Orleans Saints at the Caesars Superdome with the game kicking off at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday afternoon in week 13 of the NFL season and the game will air on Fox.

Detroit has been one of the best teams in the NFC this season, however, they saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with a 22-29 loss in week 12 against the Green Bay Packers which also dropped their record to 8-3 but they are still in 1st place in the NFC North and are tied for the 2nd best record in the NFC. The rushing offense for the Lions has been one of the best in the league as they are averaging the 6th most rushing yards per game with an average of 136.91 rushing yards per game while the passing game has also been one of the best as they enter this game averaging 268.55 passing yards per game which ranks 3rd in the NFL. Jared Goff continues to play at a high level as he enters this game having completed 275 of 405 attempts for 3,075 yards with 18 touchdowns and eight interceptions. The Detroit Lions will look to bounce back following the loss to the Packers when they travel to face the New Orleans Saints.

The New Orleans Saints continue to struggle as they enter on a two-game losing streak which puts them a game under .500 and have lost the division lead to the Atlanta Falcons following the 15-24 loss to Atlanta on Sunday. The Saints have also lost the last two games by an average margin of 8.5 points per game while the offense averaged 17 points per game during the current streak. New Orleans has also been one of the lowest-scoring teams in the NFL as they are averaging the 13th fewest points per game with an average of 20.82 points per game. The defense has carried the team for the majority of the season as they are allowing an average of 20.18 points per game which is the 8th fewest points per game, however, they will have a tough test this week when they host one of the highest-scoring teams in the league, the Detroit Lions, in week 13 of the NFL season.

BookMaker has the Detroit Lions listed as 4-point favorites on the road against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon in week 13 of the NFL season. New Orleans has won six of the last ten and two of the last three meetings while going 7-3 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Detroit Lions are 7-4 ATS overall, 4-1 ATS on the road, and 6-3 ATS as a favorite this season while the New Orleans Saints are 2-8-1 ATS overall, 0-4 ATS at home, and 1-0 ATS as an underdog on the year.

Detroit is the better team this season and has been one of the better teams in the NFL at covering the spread as they are 7-4 ATS overall and 4-1 ATS on the road while New Orleans has been one of the worst teams at covering the spread as they enter this game with a record of 2-8-1 ATS overall and have not covered the spread at home this season as they are 0-4 ATS at home which is why I am laying the points with the Detroit Lions when they travel to face the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.
