NFL Betting Preview: Green Bay Packers vs. Chicago Bears
September 10, 2023
One of the oldest rivalries in the NFL will renew for the 2023 NFL season when the Green Bay Packers travel to take on the Chicago Bears in an NFC North Division matchup on Sunday afternoon in week 1 of the NFL season.
Aaron Rodgers had one of the best records against Chicago, however, Green Bay will be starting a new quarterback in this matchup when Jordan Love makes his season debut. Which team will come away with the win in this matchup on Sunday afternoon?
Let’s take a look at how these teams are projected to perform this season.
The Green Bay Packers finished the 2023 NFL Preseason with a record of 2-1 with a win on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 36-19 and at home against the Seattle Seahawks by a score of 19-15 while losing at home to the New England Patriots by a score of 17-21.
Green Bay finished the 2022 NFL season with a record of 8-9 which led to a 3
rd
place finish in the NFC North and a losing season for the Packers for the first time since the 2018 NFL season which was also the last time Green Bay missed the playoffs. This season, Green Bay enters the year with an over/under win total of 7.5 wins and based on Vegas odds is projected to be the 3
rd
best team in the NFC North behind the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings.
Chicago finished the preseason with a record of 1-2 with a win at home against the Tennessee Titans by a score of 23-17 while losing on the road against the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 17-24 and at home against the Buffalo Bills by a score of 21-24.
The Bears finished the 2022 NFL season with a record of 3-14 which led to a last-place finish in the NFC North while missing the playoffs for the 2
nd
consecutive season as well as finishing with a losing record for the 2
nd
year in a row. This year, the Chicago Bears enter this season with an over/under win total of 7.5 wins and based on Vegas odds are projected to finish in last place in the NFC North for the 2
nd
consecutive season.
BookMaker has the Chicago Bears listed as 1-point favorites at home against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in week 1 of the NFL season. Green Bay has won nine of the last ten including the last eight matchups in a row while going 8-2 ATS in the last ten and 3-0 ATS in the last three games in the series.
Green Bay finished with a record of 8-9 ATS overall, 4-4 ATS on the road, 4-2 ATS as an underdog, and 3-3 ATS in division games while the Chicago Bears finished 5-11-1 ATS overall, 3-5-1 ATS at home, 0-1-1 ATS as a favorite, and 1-5 ATS in division games.
Chicago is going to be an improved team this season and I look for them to surpass the 7.5 win total that Vegas has set for them and Green Bay will be starting a new quarterback in Jordan Love as Bears fans can attest they are glad Aaron Rodgers is no longer the quarterback in Green Bay. I look for the Bears to get the win in this matchup on Sunday afternoon which is why I will be taking the money line for the Chicago Bears at -117 on BookMaker for this matchup in week 1 of the NFL season.
Spooky Express Pick: Chicago Bears Money Line (-117)
