NFL Betting Preview: Kansas City Chiefs vs. New England Patriots

December 17, 2023

The Kansas City Chiefs will travel to Foxborough, Massachusetts to face the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium with the game scheduled to start at 1:00 PM ET on Sunday afternoon and will air on Fox in week 15 of the NFL season.

Kansas City enters this game having lost three of their last four and are on a two-game losing streak following a 17-20 loss at home against the Buffalo Bills in week 14 with the loss being magnified by the offsides call against Kadarius Toney on a play in which the Chiefs scored what appeared to be the game-winning touchdown, however, the touchdown was nullified because of the penalty.

The Chiefs are rarely on a losing streak as they haven’t lost two games in a row since the 2021 NFL season. The Chiefs remain an above-average scoring team, however, they aren’t as explosive offensively this season as they have been in previous seasons as they enter this game averaging 22.46 points per game which ranks 11th in the NFL, and are averaging the 6th most passing yards per game with an average of 253.62 passing yards per game.

Patrick Mahomes enters this game having completed 326 of 487 attempts for 3,398 yards with 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while rushing for 339 yards. The Kansas City Chiefs will look to avoid their 3rd loss in a row, something that hasn’t happened in the Patrick Mahomes era, when they travel to face the New England Patriots.

The New England Patriots ended their five-game losing streak following a 21-18 win on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 14 of the NFL season. However, the Patriots have been one of the worst teams in the league as they enter this game in 4th place in the AFC East and have the worst record in the AFC with a record of 3-10.

Offensively, the Patriots have struggled as they are averaging the fewest points per game this year with an average of 13 points per game and are averaging the 8th fewest passing yards per game with an average of 189.46 passing yards per game while Mac Jones has been one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL as he enters this game having completed 224 of 345 attempts for 2,120 yards with 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

However, the defense has been an above-average scoring defense as they are allowing an average of 20.92 points per game which is less than the 21.71 average for the rest of the league. The New England Patriots will look to win back-to-back games for the first time this season when they host the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday afternoon.

BookMaker has the Kansas City Chiefs listed as 9.5-point favorites on the road against the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon in week 15 of the NFL season. The teams are 5-5 in the last ten while Kansas City has won two of the last three meetings. The Chiefs are 7-3 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Kansas City Chiefs are 7-6 ATS overall, 3-3 ATS on the road, and 7-6 ATS as a favorite this season while the New England Patriots are 3-10 ATS overall, 1-5 ATS at home, and 2-7 ATS as an underdog on the year.

Kansas City enters this game on a two-game losing streak, however, they are still a superior team compared to New England and have been the better team most recently in the series, winning two of the last three contests. The Chiefs have also been the better team at covering the spread in the series as they are 7-3 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three meetings while also having been the better team at covering the spread this year as they are 7-6 ATS overall while the Patriots are 3-10 ATS overall. As a result, I am buying the .5 point and laying the points with the Kansas City Chiefs when they travel to face the New England Patriots in week 15 of the NFL season.
