NFL Betting Preview: Las Vegas Raiders vs. Detroit Lions

October 30, 2023

Week 8 of the NFL season will conclude on Monday night when the Las Vegas Raiders travel to Detroit, Michigan to face the Detroit Lions at Ford Field with the game kicking off at 8:15 PM ET and airing on ABC and ESPN.

The Las Vegas Raiders enter this game with a record of 3-4 following a 12-30 loss on the road against the Chicago Bears while failing to cover the 2.5-point spread as a road favorite in week 7 of the NFL season. Las Vegas scored 12 points while compiling a total of 235 yards offensively which included 204 passing yards and 39 rushing yards while allowing 30 points and 323 total yards defensively which included 162 passing yards and 173 rushing yards. Brian Hoyer led the team in passing, completing 17 of 32 attempts for 129 yards and two interceptions. Josh Jacobs led the team in rushing with 11 carries for 35 yards while adding a reception for six yards. Davante Adams led the team in receiving, catching seven of 12 targets for 57 yards.

Detroit enters this game with a record of 5-2 following a 6-38 loss on the road against the Baltimore Ravens while failing to cover the 3-point spread as a road underdog in week 7 of the NFL season. The Lions scored 6 points while compiling a total of 337 yards offensively which included 284 passing yards and 84 rushing yards while allowing 38 points and 503 total yards defensively which included 357 passing yards and 146 rushing yards. Jared Goff led the team in passing, completing 33 of 53 attempts for 284 yards and an interception. Jahmyr Gibbs led the team in rushing with 11 carries for 68 yards and a touchdown while adding nine receptions for 58 yards. Amon-Ra St. Brown led the team in receiving, catching 13 of 19 targets for 102 yards.

BookMaker has the Detroit Lions listed as 8-point favorites at home against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night in week 8 of the NFL season. Detroit has won four of the last six and two of the last three games in the series. Both teams are 3-3 ATS in the last three meetings while the Raiders are 2-1 ATS in the last three contests. The Las Vegas Raiders are 3-4 ATS overall, 1-3 ATS on the road, and 1-2 ATS as an underdog this season while the Detroit Lions are 5-2 ATS overall, 2-1 ATS at home, and 4-1 ATS as a favorite on the year.

Detroit has been one of the best teams in the NFC this season despite the blowout loss against the Baltimore Ravens last week. The Raiders have been one of the worst teams at covering the spread on the road going 1-3 ATS on the road while the Lions have been one of the best teams at covering the spread this season going 5-2 ATS overall. I look for the Lions to bounce back in a big way when they host the Raiders on Monday night which is why I am laying the points with the Lions against the Raiders in week 8 of the NFL season.
