NFL Betting Preview: Miami Dolphins vs. New York Jets

December 17, 2023

Two AFC East rivals will face off against each other on Sunday afternoon in week 15 of the NFL season when the New York Jets travel to Miami Gardens, Florida to face the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 PM ET and will air on CBS.

New York is coming off an impressive 30-6 win at home against the Houston Texans on Sunday which also ended their five-game losing streak and the 30 points are the most points scored by the Jets since week 5 and the 2nd most they have scored all season.

The Jets have struggled offensively this season and have been the 4th worst passing team in the league as they enter this game averaging 15.46 points per game while averaging 176.92 passing yards per game. Zach Wilson has also struggled in his 3rd season in the NFL as he enters this game having completed 217 of 357 attempts for 2,245 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. However, the defense for New York has been one of the best scoring defenses in the league as they are allowing the 8th fewest points per game with an average of 19.77 points per game. The New York Jets will look to build momentum off the win against the Houston Texans when they travel to face the Miami Dolphins.

The Miami Dolphins looked like they were securely in front of the Tennessee Titans on Monday night as they led the game 27-13 following a 5-yard rushing touchdown from Raheem Mostert with 4:34 left in the game, however, the Dolphins would blow the lead following a Will Levis touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins and then a rushing touchdown from Derrick Henry with 1:49 left in the game. Miami has been one of the highest-scoring teams in the NFL this season as they are averaging the 2nd most points per game in the league with an average of 31.62 points per game and feature one of the best rushing and passing offenses in the NFL as they are averaging the 2nd most rushing yards per game with an average of 144.46 rushing yards per game while averaging the most passing yards per game with an average of 279.15 passing yards per game. However, they have a slightly below-average scoring defense as they are allowing an average of 22.62 points per game which is the 11th most points given up this season in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins will look to bounce back following the loss against the Tennessee Titans when they host the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.

BookMaker has the Miami Dolphins listed as 9.5-point favorites at home against the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon in week 15 of the NFL season. Miami has won eight of the last ten and two of the last three meetings while going 8-2 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The New York Jets are 5-7-1 ATS overall, 1-3-1 ATS on the road, 5-6 ATS as an underdog, and 1-3 ATS in division games this season while the Miami Dolphins are 8-5 ATS overall, 4-2 ATS at home, 7-2 ATS as a favorite, and 3-1 ATS in division games on the year.

Miami is the more talented team and has dominated the series against New York having won eight of the last ten and two of the last three meetings. The Dolphins have also been the better team in the series at covering the spread going 8-2 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three matchups while also being the better team this season at covering the spread as they are 8-5 ATS overall and 3-1 ATS in division games while the Jets are 5-7-1 ATS overall and 1-3 ATS in division games. As a result, I am buying the .5 point and laying the points with the Miami Dolphins in this AFC East battle.
