NFL Betting Preview: New York Giants vs. New York Jets
August 26, 2023
Aaron Rodgers is expected to take his first snap in the preseason since the 2018 NFL Preseason which will also be his first snap as a New York Jets after being traded from the Green Bay Packers where he was the starting quarterback since the 2008 NFL season. The Jets have high expectations this season after missing the playoffs in each of the previous seven seasons and finishing with a losing record in each of those seasons. New York has an over/under win total of 9.5 wins and is -135 odds of making the playoffs this season according to BookMaker.
The New York Giants finished last season in 3

place in the NFC East behind the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys with a record of 9-7-1, however, they managed to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2016 NFL season. This year they aren’t expected to improve in the standings in the NFC East as they have the 3

best odds of winning the division at +855 and are not projected to make the playoffs as they are -232 to miss the playoffs this season on BookMaker.
BookMaker has the New York Jets listed as 6-point favorites against the New York Giants in week 3 of the NFL Preseason on Saturday. The Giants have won five of the last seven games in the series while going 4-2-1 ATS in those games while the Jets have won two of the last three games and have gone 2-1 ATS in those matchups.
The New York Jets will be looking to finish the preseason off at .500 after losing to the Cleveland Browns in the Hall of Fame game by a score of 16-21 the Jets defeated the Carolina Panthers on the road by a score of 27-0 before losing last week at home against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a score of 6-13. The Jets are averaging 16.33 points per game in the preseason while averaging 267.3 total yards, 172.7 passing yards, and 99.7 rushing yards per game. Zach Wilson leads the team in passing completing 26 of 38 attempts for 258 yards with a touchdown while adding 43 rushing yards. Israel Abanikanda leads the team in rushing with 25 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown. Jason Brownlee leads the team in receiving with eight receptions for 77 yards.
The Giants split their first two games of the NFL Preseason with a loss in week 1 on the road against the Detroit Lions by a score of 16-21 and are coming off last week’s 21-19 win at home against the Carolina Panthers. Tyrod Taylor led the team in passing completing 9 of 13 attempts for 90 yards while also leading the team in rushing with 21 yards. Isaiah Hodgins led the team in receiving, catching two of four targets of 45 yards.
The New York Jets are the more talented team heading into the regular season with a solid defense and an offense that should be an above-average scoring team this year. The Giants may have been the better team over the last seven games in the series but the Jets have been the better team over the last three winning two of those matchups while also going 2-1 ATS in those contests. I look for that trend to continue which is why I am putting my money on the New York Jets -6 on BookMaker for this matchup on Saturday night.
