NFL Betting Preview: New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles

January 7, 2024

A pair of NFC East division rivals will square off on Sunday afternoon when the Philadelphia Eagles travel to East Rutherford, New Jersey to face the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 PM ET and will air on CBS in week 18 of the NFL season.

With a win and a loss by the Dallas Cowboys the Philadelphia Eagles will win the NFC East, however, if the Cowboys win against the Commanders the Eagles will be the 5 seed and will face either the Buccaneers or Saints in the Wild Card round next weekend. Philadelphia enters this game with a record of 11-5 and is in 2nd place in the NFC East while having lost four of their last five games including last week’s 31-35 loss at home against the Arizona Cardinals. Philadelphia has been one of the highest-scoring teams in the NFL this season as they enter this matchup averaging 26.44 points per game which ranks 7th in the NFL.

Jalen Hurts has had a solid season in his 2nd full season as the starting quarterback for Philadelphia as he enters this game having completed 345 of 522 attempts for 3,803 yards with 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while rushing for 601 yards and 15 touchdowns. The Philadelphia Eagles will look to bounce back following the loss against the Cardinals at home when they travel to face the New York Giants.

The New York Giants are in 3rd place in the NFC East with a record of 5-11 and are on a three-game losing streak following a 25-26 loss at home against the Los Angeles Rams in week 17. The Giants have been a below-average team offensively and defensively this season as they are averaging the 3rd fewest points per game in the league with an average of 14.94 points per game while allowing the 5th most points per game with an average of 24.81 points per game.

Tommy DeVito has given the offense some life since taking over as the starting quarterback and enters this game having completed 112 of 176 attempts for 1,087 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions while rushing for 195 yards and a touchdown. The New York Giants will look to end their three-game losing streak when they host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

BookMaker has the Philadelphia Eagles listed as 5-point favorites on the road against the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon in week 18 of the NFL season. Philadelphia has won eight of the last ten including the previous five meetings. The Giants are 6-4 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The Philadelphia Eagles are 7-7-2 ATS overall, 4-3-1 ATS on the road, 6-5-2 ATS as a favorite, and 1-3-1 ATS in division games this season while the New York Giants are 7-8-1 ATS overall, 4-2-1 ATS at home, 7-7-1 ATS as an underdog, and 3-2 ATS in division games on the year.

Philadelphia enters this game with a better record and has been the better team in the series, winning eight of the last ten including the previous five matchups. However, the Giants have been the better team at covering the spread going 6-4 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series which is why I am taking the points with the New York Giants when they host the Philadelphia Eagles.
