NFL Betting Preview: New York Giants vs. Washington Commanders

November 19, 2023

A pair of NFC East rivals will square off in week 11 of the NFL season when the New York Giants travel to Landover, Maryland to face the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field with the game scheduled to kick off at 1:00 PM ET and will air regionally on Fox.

The New York Giants will likely be underdogs in the rest of their games this season as Daniel Jones is out for the season with a torn ACL and Tyrod Taylor will not be back until week 14 at the earliest and to make matters worse is their 3rd string quarterback, Tommy DeVito is questionable with a shoulder injury. The Giants are arguably the worst team in the NFL as they are the lowest-scoring team in the league as they are averaging 11.8 points per game while their defense has also allowed the 4th most points per game this season with an average of 26.6 points per game which means the Giants are losing their games this season by an average margin of 14.8 points per game. New York is 2-8 this season and is on a three-game losing streak which includes last week’s 17-49 loss on the road against the Dallas Cowboys and have been outscored by their opponents 23-79 over their last two matchups.

Ron Rivera is on the hot seat and unless the Washington Commanders can turn their season around, he is likely to be fired at the end of the season. Washington enters this game with a record of 4-6 and has lost three of their last five games including a 26-29 loss on the road against the Seattle Seahawks last week while covering the 6-point spread as a road underdog. The passing game for the Commanders has been above-average as Sam Howell leads the NFL in passing yards with 2,783 yards this season, however, their running game has been below average this season as they are averaging the 5th fewest rushing yards per game with an average of 87.9 rushing yards per game and their defense has been one of the worst scoring defenses in the league as they are allowing an average of 27.4 points per game.

BookMaker has the Washington Commanders listed as 9.5-point favorites at home against the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon in week 11 of the NFL season. New York is 7-2-1 in the last ten and 2-0-1 in the last three meetings while going 8-2 ATS in the last ten and 2-1 ATS in the last three games in the series. The New York Giants are 2-7-1 ATS overall, 1-5 ATS on the road, 2-6-1 ATS as an underdog, and 1-2 ATS in division games this season while the Washington Commanders are 5-4-1 ATS overall, 0-3-1 ATS at home, 0-3 ATS as a favorite, and 1-1-1 ATS in division games on the year.

Neither of these teams is likely to retain their head coach following this season as they are two of the worst teams in the NFL. However, the Giants have been one of the worst teams at covering the spread this season as they are 2-7-1 ATS overall and 1-5 ATS on the road. While 9.5 points may seem like a large spread, the Giants are losing by an average margin of 14.8 points per game this season which is why I am buying the .5 point and laying the points with the Washington Commanders when they host the New York Giants.
