September 10, 2023

This matchup features the reigning NFC Champion against a team with arguably the best coach in the history of the NFL as the Philadelphia Eagles travel to take on the New England Patriots in week 1 of the NFL season. Will the Eagles build upon their dominance from last season or will the Patriots get the win at home? Let’s take a closer look at how these teams are projected to play this season.

The Philadelphia Eagles finished the 2023 NFL preseason with a record of 0-2-1 with losses on the road against the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 19-20 and at home against the Indianapolis Colts by a score of 13-27 while tying the Cleveland Browns at home by a score of 18-18.

The Eagles finished last season with a record of 14-3 which led to their 1st NFC East division title since the 2019 NFL season and Philadelphia made the playoffs for the 2nd year in a row. Philadelphia won at home in the Divisional round against the New York Giants by a score of 38-7 and the NFC Championship game at home against the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31-7 before losing in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 35-38.

This season, the Philadelphia Eagles enter the season with an over/under win total of 11 wins and are projected to win the NFC East for the 2nd season in a row while having the 3rd best odds of winning the Super Bowl only behind the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills.

New England finished the preseason with a record of 1-2 with a win on the road against the Green Bay Packers by a score of 21-17 while losing at home to the Houston Texans by a score of 9-20 and on the road against the Tennessee Titans by a score of 7-23.

The Patriots finished last season with a record of 8-9 which led to a 3rd place finish in the AFC East and New England missing the playoffs and finishing with a losing record after making the playoffs in 2021. This year, the New England Patriots enter the season with an over/under win total of 7.5 wins and based on Vegas odds are projected to be the worst team in the AFC East.
