NFL Betting Preview: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

January 15, 2024

The NFL Wild Card Round will conclude on Monday night when the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Tampa, Florida to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 8:00 PM ET and will air on ABC, ESPN, and ESPN2.

The Philadelphia Eagles have struggled over their last six games as they have only won one game in their last six matchups and are on a two-game losing streak following a 10-27 loss on the road against the New York Giants in week 18 of the NFL season. Philadelphia has one of the best offenses in the NFL this season as they enter this game averaging 25.47 points per game which ranks 7th in the NFL and rank 8th in the NFL in rushing yards per game with an average of 128.82 rushing yards per game.

Jalen Hurts played a pivotal role in the success of the offense this season as he led the team in passing and was 2nd on the team in rushing having completed 352 of 538 attempts for 3,858 yards with 23 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while rushing for 605 yards and 15 touchdowns.

However, the Eagles also had one of the worst defenses and secondaries in the NFL as they allowed the 3rd most points per game with an average of 25.18 points per game while allowing the 2nd most passing yards per game with an average of 252.71 passing yards per game. The Philadelphia Eagles will look to end their two-game losing streak when they travel to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay made it to the playoffs by winning the NFC South and finishing the season with a record of 9-8 following a 9-0 win on the road against the Carolina Panthers in week 18 which was also their 5th win in their last six games. The Buccaneers were a below-average team offensively as they enter this game averaging 20.47 points per game which is below the league average of 21.77 points per game, however, they featured a slightly above-average passing attack that averaged 224.24 passing yards per game.

Bake Mayfield had a solid season in his first season with Tampa Bay and finished the season completing 364 of 566 attempts for 4,044 yards with 28 touchdowns and ten interceptions while the Buccaneers also had two 1,000-yard receivers with Mike Evans having 1,255 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns and Chris Godwin having 83 receptions for 1,024 yards and two touchdowns. The success for the Buccaneers this season can be attributed to their defense as they enter this game allowing the 7th fewest yards per game in the league with an average of 19.12 points allowed per game. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will look to advance to the Divisional round of the playoffs when they host the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.

BookMaker has the Philadelphia Eagles listed as 3-point favorites on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card round on Monday night. Tampa Bay has won six of the last ten and two of the previous three meetings. The teams are 5-5 ATS in the last ten while the Eagles have covered the spread in two of the last three games in the series. The Philadelphia Eagles are 7-8-2 ATS overall, 4-4-1 ATS on the road, and 6-6-2 ATS as a favorite this season while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 11-6 ATS overall, 3-5 ATS at home, and 8-3 ATS as an underdog on the year.

Philadelphia enters with the better record, however, Tampa Bay is the home team and has been the better team in the series, winning six of the last ten and two of the previous three matchups. The Buccaneers are also the better team at covering the spread this season going 11-6 ATS overall and 8-3 ATS as an underdog while the Eagles are 7-8-2 ATS overall and 6-6-2 ATS as a favorite. As a result, I am taking the points with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when they host the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round of the NFC Playoffs on Monday night
