NFL Playoffs Betting Preview: Buffalo Bills vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

January 14, 2024

The Pittsburgh Steelers will travel to Orchard Park, New York to face the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 1:00 PM ET on Sunday afternoon and will air on CBS and Paramount+.

Pittsburgh has been one of the worst offensive teams in the league, however, their defense has played a pivotal role in the success they have had this season and is the main reason they are a playoff team this season. The Steelers finished the regular season in 3rd place in the AFC North with a record of 10-7 and are on a three-game winning streak following a 17-10 win on the road against the Baltimore Ravens in week 18 of the NFL season.

The Steelers are averaging the 5th fewest points per game and are the lowest-scoring team in the playoffs this season as they are averaging 17.88 points per game, however, they are allowing the 6th fewest points per game in the league with an average of 19.06 points per game. The Pittsburgh Steelers will look to extend their winning streak to four games when they travel to face the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the AFC Playoffs.

The Buffalo Bills won the AFC East for the 4th consecutive season as they finished the regular season with a record of 11-6 and are on a five-game winning streak following Sunday’s 21-14 win on the road against the Miami Dolphins to win the AFC East. Buffalo has been one of the higher-scoring teams this season in the league as they enter this game averaging the 6th most points per game with an average of 26.53 points per game. Josh Allen has played a pivotal role in the success the offense has had this season as he enters this game leading the team in passing and is 2nd on the team in rushing having completed 385 of 579 attempts for 4,306 yards with 29 touchdowns and 18 interceptions while rushing for 524 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Bills are allowing the 4th fewest points per game in the NFL with an average of 18.29 points allowed per game. The Buffalo Bills will look to advance to the Divisional round of the AFC Playoffs and extend their winning streak to six games when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon.

BookMaker has the Buffalo Bills listed as 10-point favorites at home against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round of the AFC Playoffs on Sunday afternoon. Pittsburgh has won seven of the last ten while Buffalo has won two of the previous three meetings. The Steelers are 6-4 ATS in the last ten while the Bills have covered the spread in two of the last three games in the series. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 10-7 ATS overall, 5-3 ATS on the road, and 6-4 ATS as an underdog this season while the Buffalo Bills are 7-10 ATS overall, 4-4 ATS at home, and 6-8 ATS as a favorite on the year.

Buffalo enters this game with a better record and has been the better team offensively this season while having been the better team most recently in the series, winning two of the previous three meetings and going 2-1 ATS in the last three matchups. As a result, I am laying the points with the Buffalo Bills when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon in the Wild Card round of the AFC Playoffs.
