NHL Betting Picks and Predictions: Los Angeles Kings vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

January 9, 2024

The Los Angeles Kings will travel to Tampa, Florida to face the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Amalie Arena with the puck scheduled to drop at 7:00 PM ET on Tuesday and will air on Bally Sports West.

Los Angeles has been one of the best teams in the Western Conference as they enter this game in 3rd place in the Pacific Division with a record of 20-10-6 and 46 points which also gives them the 6th best record in the conference, however, they are on a five-game losing streak following a 3-4 loss on the road against the Washington Capitals on Sunday. The success for the Kings this season can be attributed to their defensive play and goalies as they enter this game allowing the 2nd fewest goals per game and have the best penalty-kill percentage in the NHL as they are allowing an average of 2.49 goals per game and have a penalty-kill percentage of 87.27%.

Cam Talbot has been one of the best goalies in the league this season as he enters this game with a record of 14-9-3 with a .923 save percentage and is allowing an average of 2.17 goals per game which is the 2nd lowest goals allowed per game and the 3rd best save percentage in the league. The Kings have also been a slightly above-average team offensively as they rank 10th in goals per game with an average of 3.4 goals per game. The Los Angeles Kings will look to end their five-game losing streak when they travel to face the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are in 5th place in the Atlantic Division and have the 11th best record in the Eastern Conference with a record of 19-17-5 and 43 points and have lost two of their last three games including a 3-7 loss on the road against the Boston Bruins on Saturday. Tampa Bay has been one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL this season as they are allowing an average of 3.49 goals per game which ranks 26th in the NHL and rank 16th in penalty-kill percentage with a penalty-kill percentage of 80%. However, they have one of the best power-play success rates in the league with a power-play success rate of 29.23%.

Nikita Kucherov has been one of the best players in the NHL this season as he is tied for the 2nd most goals with 28, tied for 3rd in assists with 39, and leads the NHL in points with 67 points this season. The Tampa Bay Lightning will look to bounce back following the loss on the road against the Bruins when they host the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.
