NHL Betting Picks and Predictions: Montreal Canadians vs. Vancouver Canucks

November 12, 2023

The Vancouver Canucks will travel to Montreal, Quebec to face the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre on Sunday evening with the puck scheduled to drop at 7:00 PM ET.

Vancouver has been one of the best teams in the NHL to start the season as they enter this game with a record of 10-3-1 and 21 points which puts them in 2nd place in the Pacific Division, only trailing the Vegas Golden Knights, and puts them in a tie with the New York Rangers for the 3rd best record in the NHL. The Vancouver Canucks have been the most complete team to start the season as they rank 1st in goals per game and 2nd in limiting the goals scored by their opponents as they are averaging 4.54 goals per game while allowing an average of 2 goals per game. Elias Petterson and Brock Boeser have played a pivotal role in the success the Canucks have had this season as Pettersson leads the league in assists with 17 this season while Brock Boeser is tied for the 2nd most goals in the league with 11 goals. Both goalies have save percentages above .900 and are both allowing under three goals per game, however, Casey DeSmith has not performed as well as Thatcher Demko as is has a .911 save percentage and is allowing an average of 2.82 goals per game with a record of 2-0-1.

The Montreal Canadiens are coming off an impressive win in overtime against the best team in the Eastern Conference, the Boston Bruins, by a score of 3-2 and are on a two-game winning streak with both wins coming in overtime and both wins coming by a score of 3-2. The Canadiens are one of the most improved teams in the league this season as they enter this matchup with a record of 7-5-2 and 16 points which puts them in 5th place in the Atlantic Division and puts them in a three-way tie with the Washington Capitals and the Tampa Bay Lighting with the 7th best record in the Eastern Conference. However, the Canadiens will be playing in back-to-back games against two of the top teams in the NHL when they host the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday evening.

BookMaker has the Vancouver Canucks listed as -165 moneyline favorites on the road against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday evening. Montreal is 5-3-2 in the last ten games while Vancouver has won two of the last three meetings. The Canadiens have outscored the Canucks by an average of 3.9 to 3.1 goals per game over the last ten while both teams averaged 4.67 goals per game in the last three games in the series.

Vancouver has been one of the best teams in the league this season as they enter this game with the 3rd best record in the NHL and have been the better team most recently in the series, winning two of the previous three meetings. The Canadiens are also playing in back-to-back games with their game on Saturday going to overtime and without rest it will be difficult for Montreal to win back-to-back games against two of the best teams in the NHL which is why I am taking the moneyline for the Vancouver Canucks at -165 when they travel to face the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday evening.

Spooky Express Pick: Vancouver Canucks Moneyline (-165)
