PFL 9: 2023 Playoffs Betting Preview: Clay Collard vs. Shane Burgos
August 23, 2023
PFL 9 will provide fans with an excellent showcase of fighters aiming to improve in the tournament. The battle everyone is talking about is the lightweight semifinal showdown as the main event of the night, featuring Clay Collard and Shane Burgos.
Date: August 23, 2023
Location: The Theater at Madison Square Garden, New York, NY
Main Card: ESPN/ESPN+ at 9:00 PM ET
Prelims: ESPN+ at 6:30 PM ET
Clay Collard Betting Preview
Collard has won his last two battles and is aiming to land a third consecutive. His most recent win was a second round TKO against Steven Ray back in June of this year.
He has accumulated 23 wins so far with 11 of them by knockout, three by submission, and nine by decision. Nine of his victories have resulted in a first round finish and six of his 10 losses have come by decision.
“Cassius” has gone 5-2 in the PFL promotion against solid competition. Prior to that, he went 1-3 in the UFC and did not really get his footing down and stumbled in fights he needed to win.
He has a great opportunity now to make up for those mistakes. He is also ranked as the 81
st
best lightweight fighter in the world and has a chance to improve with a win.
Shane Burgos Betting Preview
Burgos is coming off of a unanimous decision victory against Yamato Nishikawa back in June earlier this year. This put him back on the winning track after a unanimous decision defeat in his battle prior to this one.
With 16 victories under his belt, he offers a balanced resume of wins with five by knockout, five by submission, and six by decision. Six of his victories have resulted in a first round finish and he has two losses each by knockout and decision.
“Hurricane” has also spent some time in the UFC, but fared a little better than Collard at 8-3. He is also looking to improve on his PFL record, at 1-1 so far.
He is currently ranked as the 129
th
best lightweight fighter in the world. This is a perfect time to showcase his skills to increase his rank and to move up in the tournament.
Game Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
The following moneyline from MyBookie is showing that Shane Burgos is a slight favorite to take over this main event. Both fighters have quality experience in various fighting leagues, making this an interesting matchup.
Clay Collard: +113
Shane Burgos: -133
*odds are subject to changes
While Collard has an appealing resume and slightly better world ranking, he does not look the best on paper. Burgos did well in the UFC, which shows he could do well in this battle.
Final Pick: Take Shane Burgos to Win at -133
