PGA Tour Betting Preview: Sony Open

January 11, 2024

The 2024 Sony Open will be played at the Wai’alae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii starting Thursday, January 11. The field of 144 will contend for a share of the $7,900,000 prize pool in one of the tougher Sony Open’s fans have seen over the years. Currently, Ludvig Aberg is the moneyline favorite at +1200.

Sony Open Betting Preview

The Sony Open will feature around 20 of the top-50 best golfers in the world, according to the rankings. A handful of the best are coming off The Sentry last week, which makes this the second event in Hawaii to kick off the new PGA year.

The course barely reaches 7,100 yards and is a Par 70, with only two Par-5s. The greens are Bermuda and should have relatively average speeds unless rainfall has affected the course this week.

This is a relatively easier course and golfers should be able to score well into the teens for under par. However, if conditions become windy like they did in 2020, golfers will have to grind it out (winning score -11).

Golfers with Best Chance to Win

The 2024 Sony Open is an event that only a handful of golfers are likely going to succeed at. Below you can check out which ones could land within the top 10 or potentially win.

Sahith Theegala +4000

Theegala comes into this event as the 31st-best golfer in the world. He has excellent momentum heading into this tournament, as he recently placed second at The Sentry last week with a -28 final score. His performance from that tournament should translate well over to this one.

Si Woo Kim +4000

Si Woo Kim is the defending champion of this event and finished with a final score of -18, just one stroke ahead to cap off an incredible final day. He is coming off a T25 performance at The Sentry last week, so he at least has some solid momentum playing on a similar course coming in. He is also currently ranked as the 46th-best golfer in the world.

Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick

The 2024 Sony Open has plenty of golfers to choose from for your betting pleasure. MyBookie currently has Ludvig Aberg (+1200) as the favorite to win this event.

Despite Aberg’s solid momentum approaching this event, there are arguably better possibilities on the table. For example, Matt Kuchar presents a great betting opportunity.

Matt Kuchar +4000

Kuchar is currently ranked as the 54th-best golfer in the world. But, his game has translated well in this tournament specially over the years.

Looking back at his last 10 starts here, he has recorded eight top-13’s. Even more impressive is that he has landed T7 for the last two years here, making him one of the most consistent threats to compete against.

Final Pick: Take Matt Kuchar to Win at +4000
