PGA Tour Championship Betting Preview
August 24, 2023
The last 30 top ranked golfers in the FedEx Cup will be competing in the 2023 Tour Championship. Plenty of exciting surprises are sure to unveil as the last tournament begins, with plenty of betting opportunities on the horizon.
Tournament Details
Date: Aug 24-27, 2023
Course: East Lake Golf Course
Watch on: GOLF, CBS
Tour Championship Betting Preview
This event is a little different than most tournaments, as golfers with the best FedEx Cup points earn a handicap over the field. Scottie Scheffler, for example, starts the tournament off with -10 since he is the top ranked in points. Viktor Hovland follows suit in second place at -8 to start.
The 2022 champion Rory McIlroy will start off with -7, which could be more than enough to capture a second straight win. One could argue that Scheffler is the man to beat, especially after blowing one of the largest leads in Tour Championship history last year on the final day to lose it all.
East Lake is a Par 70 that spans 7,346 yards. Many golfers will likely score over -15, as the winning score last year was -21.
Golfers with Best Chance to Win
The following golfers have the best chance to win or at least place within the top 10 at the 2023 Tour Championship.
Rory McIlroy +1000
McIlroy is coming off of a fourth place finish in the BMW Championship at -12. He is also the defending champion of this event with a great start to the race. This will be shocking if the second best player in the world does not at least place in the top five.
Viktor Hovland +2200
It would not hurt to throw some money at the fifth best golfer in the world in Hovland, who just won the BMW Championship and has earned the second best start to the tournament at -8 once they tee off. He finished T15 here last year, so this will be interesting to see if he can pull it off.
Sung-Jae Im +4000
Im is a bit of a long shot to win, but he placed second here last year. He only gets -2 to start this tournament, but nothing is set in stone until the last day of the tournament, so anything can happen.
Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
The following moneyline odds from MyBookie reveal that these top five golfers have the best chance to win the 2023 Tour Championship.
Scottie Scheffler: +800
Jon Rahm: +800
Rory McIlroy: +1000
Brooks Koepka: +1200
Xander Schauffele: +1800
*odds are subject to changes
Scottie Scheffler +800
Scheffler earned the best start again after having a remarkable season. He has consistently been the best golfer all year and has another opportunity similar to last year. Most likely, he will not let this one slip away again.
Final Pick: Take Scottie Scheffler to Win at +800
