Week 2 of the 2024 NFL Preseason will kick off on Thursday when the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Foxborough, Massachusetts, to face the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium with
the game starts at 7:00 PM ET and will air on the NFL Network.
Both teams will enter week 2 of the NFL Preseason with a preseason record of 1-0, with the Philadelphia Eagles beating the Baltimore Ravens on the road by a score of 16-13 and the New England Patriots defeating the Carolina Panthers 17-3.
The Philadelphia Eagles had a close win in week 1, narrowly defeating the Baltimore Ravens on the road with a game-winning field goal and four seconds left. Most starters didn't play for Philadelphia in Week 1, with key players on offense not playing a snap, including Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Dallas Goedert, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith.
This week, I expect some of the players to play, as this is usually a warm-up to the regular season in the preseason. Statistically, the Eagles dominated the game, outgaining the Ravens 259 to 164 total yards offensively and winning the time of possession battle 37:21 to 22:39. The Eagles also covered the 1.5-point spread as a road favorite. The Eagles will look to improve to 2-0 in the preseason when they travel to face the New England Patriots.
The New England Patriots won in week 1 of the preseason at home against the Carolina Panthers, winning by a score of 17-3. All four quarterbacks for the Patriots saw action. However, Bailey Zappe saw most of the offensive snaps in the game, completing 12 of 20 attempts for 108 yards. At the same time, rookie Joe Milton was the only quarterback of the four to throw a touchdown while adding 22 yards rushing on five attempts.
New England outgained Carolina 274 to 151 total yards offensively. It won the time of possession 31:57 to 28:03. The Patriots covered the 6.5-point spread as a home favorite in week 1 of the preseason and will look to improve their record to 2-0 in the preseason when they host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2 on Thursday night.
The last time these two teams played each other was at the beginning of the 2023 NFL season, which resulted in a 25-20 win for the Philadelphia Eagles and a 3.5-point cover as a road favorite. The Eagles have been the hotter team in the series, winning three of the last four matchups, including their win in Super Bowl LII.
Philadelphia has also covered the spread in three of those four matchups. However, New England has won 13 in the previous 18 games in the series against Philadelphia. The Patriots have also covered the spread in 12 of their last 18 preseason games.
Both teams are coming off wins in Week 1 of the preseason. However, the Patriots looked better defensively in their matchup against the Panthers than the Eagles did against the Ravens. New England has been one of the best teams in the NFL at covering the spread in their preseason games, as they have covered the spread in 12 of their last 18 preseason games. Buy the .5 point and lay the 2 points with the New England Patriots when they host the Philadelphia Eagles for Week 2 of the 2024 NFL Preseason on Thursday night.
