The Mississippi State Bulldogs (1-3) have a historic opportunity when they take on the top-ranked Texas Longhorns (4-0) at DKR Texas-Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, September 28 at 4:15 PM ET.
Check out our Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Texas Longhorns betting preview below, which reveals the Longhorns as heavy favorites with a point spread at -39.5 (-110).
The Bulldogs have lost their last three games, with their latest defeat being a 45-28 outing against the Florida Gators. The game did not get out of hand except for the second quarter, in which the Gators dropped 21 points.
Blake Shapen completed 13 of his 21 passes for 140 yards and had a touchdown. Johnnie Daniels added more to the ground game on 14 carries with 77 yards and a touchdown. If their defense were better, this would have been a more respectable outcome.
The offense was appealing since they nearly had 500 yards and 31 first downs. However, they cannot expect to win games when they allowed 503 total yards to the Gators and a 21-point outburst in one quarter alone.
The Bulldogs over their last three games have averaged 22.6 points while giving up 38.6 points in return. Their defense has killed their success on offense during this losing streak.
The Longhorns have scored over 50 points three times in four games, as they have obliterated everyone outside of the top-25. Their latest triumph was a 51-3 blast over the UL Monroe Warhawks.
Quinn Ewers did not play this one and is being monitored for a week-to-week update, so questionable for his appearance against the Bulldogs. For now, Arch Manning can easily take the reins. He recently posted 15 of 29 completions for 258 yards and two touchdowns (along with two interceptions).
They put up nearly 500 yards and held the Warhawks to 111, showing the vast difference in offensive firepower. They did have those turnovers from Manning, but this will likely not be an issue against the Bulldogs.
In their last three battles, they have averaged 46.0 points and have held teams to 7.3 points in return. This is an excellent spread and will most likely happen again until they reach tougher SEC opponents.
MyBookie has you all set with college football odds in the Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Texas Longhorns game. Current odds have the Longhorns as 39.5-point favorites. Market trends show that the Longhorns are winning with a 98.1 percent chance of certainty.
The Bulldogs clearly have no chance against an elite Longhorns' offense, regardless of whether Ewers or Manning is under center. They have also lost against much worse teams than the Longhorns. Look for the Longhorns to cover the spread.
