UFC Fight Night Betting Preview: Cody Brundage vs. Zach Reese
December 2, 2023
Middleweights Cody Brundage and Zach Reese will battle in the prelims in the next UFC on ESPN 52 event, offering a compelling betting opportunity. Reese is a moderate favorite to win with a moneyline at -250.
Cody Brundage Betting Preview
Brundage finally overcame his three-fight losing streak with a recent win. This was a first round disqualification due to an illegal elbow from Jacob Malkoun in UFC Fight Night 228 in September earlier this year.
His fighting resume shows nine wins consisting of four knockouts, three submissions, a decision, and by a DQ. Out of five defeats, two have come by decision. In five wins, he has ended the battle in the first round.
He has successfully landed strikes and takedowns at a rate of 54 and 50 percent, respectively. Unfortunately, his significant strike ratio is not appealing. He takes on 1.69 significant strikes and absorbs 2.52 in each minute of action.
Brundage does not defend the best against significant strikes at 44 percent, but does better against takedowns at 73 percent. He has some six on the ground with 2.51 takedowns and 1.11 submissions in each 15 minutes of fighting time.
Zach Reese Betting Preview
Reese has successfully won all six of his battles and is getting his first shot at the UFC. His most recent success was a first round submission over Eli Aronov at Dana White’s Contender Series in August of this year.
In total, he has six wins consisting of four knockouts and two submissions. Overall, all six of these wins have resulted in first round finishes.
“Savage” has primarily battled in the Fury Fighting Championship promotion, with only one battle against a quality opponent. This will be the biggest test of his career and a lot of pressure to make a good first impression.
Reese has earned rankings among the United States. Notably, he ranks 37
th
in the US for best professional middleweight. A win here would greatly improve his rank.
Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
MyBookie provides the odds for this match, showing a moderate preference for Zach Reese. Consider including him in a parlay or opting for a prop bet to enhance the potential payout value.
Cody Brundage: +175
Zach Reese: -250
Brundage has battled quality opponents in the UFC and has been on the wrong end of the spectrum in terms of winning. A handful of the losses here have been early finishes, which does not bode well against a fighter that only knows how to end a fight early. Look for Reese to take advantage of the situation.
Spooky Express Pick: Zach Reese in Parlay or Prop
