UFC Fight Night Betting Preview: Phil Hawes vs. Brunno Ferreira
January 13, 2024
An exciting middleweight showdown is coming up soon between Phil Hawes and Brunno Ferreira as the opening fight on the main card of UFC Fight Night 234. Check out this battle along with others on Saturday, January 13, at 7:00 PM ET at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ferreira is currently a slight -130 moneyline favorite for this battle.
Phil Hawes Betting Preview
Hawes has lost his last two fights and is 1-3 over his last four battles. His most recent defeat was a first round knockout, his second one in a row, this time against Ikram Aliskerov back at UFC 288 in May of this year.
Out of his 12 victories, he has earned eight knockouts, two submissions, and two decisions. In seven of these 12 triumphs, he was able to end the fight in the opening round. He also has four of his five defeats coming by knockout.
“No Hype” lands 60 percent of his strikes and 36 percent of his takedowns. He is aggressive with his significant strikes, landing 5.55 and taking on 3.70 each minute of action. This is an appealing ratio as long as he continues to defend.
Hawes has been averaging 2.28 takedowns and 0.25 submissions per 15 minutes of action. He also adds in a defense against significant strikes at 56 percent and a 100 percent success rate against takedowns so far.
Brunno Ferreira Betting Preview
Ferreira just suffered his first loss in his career and his second battle in the UFC. This snapped a 10-fight win streak, in which the loss occurred against Nursulton Ruziboev at UFC on ESPN 48 in July of last year by a first round knockout.
All 10 of his wins have been early finishes, with seven coming by knockout and three by submission. Impressively, eight of these wins have resulted in first round finishes.
He has been landing 54 percent of his strikes but has not been successful landing takedowns. His significant strike ratio is aggressive and shows no room for error, as he lands 5.79 significant strikes each minute and takes on 5.22.
Ferreira does not offer any averages for takedowns or submissions in the UFC yet. But, he does defend against significant strikes at 47 percent and against submissions at 50 percent.
Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
MyBookie
has the odds currently set for this matchup, with Brunno Ferreira as a slight favorite (-130) to succeed. However, both fighters are evenly matched and it could potentially go either way.
This could be an excellent battle for bettors and fans alike with how well they stack up. The edge slightly goes to Hawes with a positive significant strike ratio and some takedowns in the mix.
Final Pick: Phil Hawes +110
