UFC Fight Night Betting Preview: Westin Wilson vs. Jean Silva
January 13, 2024
The next UFC event is set for Saturday, January 13, at 4:00 PM ET for the prelims at UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. One battle to check out is a featherweight showdown between Westin Wilson and Jean Silva for UFC Fight Night 234, where Silva is a heavy moneyline favorite at -1300.
Westin Wilson Betting Preview
Wilson is newer to the UFC, with a recent debut in UFC on ESPN 48 back in July of last year. This unfortunately led to a first round knockout loss at the hands of Joanderson Brito and snapped his previous three-fight win streak heading into that battle.
His fighting resume reveals 16 wins spread across five knockouts and 11 submissions. Impressively, 14 of these wins have ended in the opening round of action, but four of his eight losses have come by submission.
Since Wilson only has one fight in the UFC, it would not be fair to post his stats here since one fight is tough to judge someone on. But, he has bounced around various organizations such as Legacy Fighting Alliance (0-3) and Bellator (1-0).
He has battled against quality opponents and won, but has also been susceptible to bad defeats as well. Based on his previous fight in the UFC, he will need to upgrade his striking abilities.
Jean Silva Betting Preview
Silva has won his last seven fights heading into this matchup, boasting great momentum. His previous success was a unanimous decision over Kevin Vallejos in Dana White’s Contender Series back in September of last year.
So far in his 11 victories, he has posted eight knockouts, two submissions, and one decision. On top of that, eight of his wins have ended in the first round. As for his two losses, both have come by decision.
Silva’s win over Vallejos was arguably the best of his career, especially since Vallejos was undefeated through 11 fights. This will be another key test as he makes his debut in the UFC.
He has already established a worldwide ranking for himself, currently sitting as the 128
th
-best featherweight in the octagon. This will be a tremendous opportunity to boost his resume and ranking.
Odds, Series Trends and Free Pick
MyBookie
has the odds for this battle, with Jean Silva as an overwhelming heavy favorite (-1300) to win. If you are contemplating adding Silva to your betting slip, you should add him to a parlay with other fights on the night or seek out a prop bet that would likely lead to a better payout.
Silva landed a healthy amount of significant strikes each minute, while Wilson took on way too many in his battle. Look for Silva to set the tone early and eventually find his way to success with strong striking.
Final Pick: Jean Silva in Parlay or Prop
