Who will win Super Bowl LVII: Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers
February 11, 2024
Super Bowl LVIII will take place on Sunday, February 11
th
, and will feature the San Francisco 49ers facing the Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada with the game scheduled to start at 6:30 PM ET on Sunday evening and will air on CBS, Nickelodeon, and Paramount+.
The San Francisco 49ers finished with the best record in the NFC at 12-5 and advanced to the Super Bowl by defeating the Green Bay Packers at home by a score of 24-21 in the Divisional Round and the Detroit Lions by a score of 34-31 in the NFC Championship game. In both playoff games, the 49ers had to come from behind after trailing by double-digits as they trailed the Green Bay Packers 21-14 heading into the 4
th
quarter and the 49ers had never come back to win a game when trailing by 7 or more points in the 4
th
quarter with Kyle Shanahan as the head coach.
In the NFC Championship game, San Francisco looked like they were going to lose as they trailed Detroit 24-7 at halftime, however, coaching decisions played a role in the comeback for the 49ers after Dan Campbell made two questionable decisions and the 49ers scored 27 unanswered points against the Lions to win the NFC Championship and advance to Super Bowl LVIII to face the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs made the playoffs by winning the AFC West for the 8
th
consecutive season and finishing with a record of 11-6 and will be playing in their 4
th
Super Bowl in the last five years after defeating the Miami Dolphins at home by a score of 26-7 in the Wild Card round, the Buffalo Bills by a score of 27-24 in the Divisional round which was also Patrick Mahomes’s first playoff win on the road in his career, and the Baltimore Ravens, who finished the regular season with the best record in the NFL at 13-4, by a score of 17-10 on the road in the AFC Championship game.
The Chiefs dominated the game against the Ravens as they held one of the highest-scoring teams to 10 points and were able to contain the presumed NFL MVP, Lamar Jackson, to 272 passing yards with a touchdown and an interception while rushing for 54 yards. The Chiefs will look to become the first team since the New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005 to win back-to-back Super Bowls when they face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
BookMaker
has the San Francisco 49ers listed as 2-point favorites against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday evening. Kansas City has won six of the last nine including the previous three meetings while covering the spread in seven of the last nine including three straight games in the series. The San Francisco 49ers are 9-10 ATS overall, 9-10 ATS as a favorite, and 0-2 ATS in the playoffs this season while the Kansas City Chiefs are 12-7-1 ATS overall, 3-0 ATS as an underdog, and 3-0 ATS in the playoffs on the year.
This will be a Super Bowl rematch from Super Bowl LIV, the previous times a Super Bowl rematch has happened between two coaches the winning coach from the first Super Bowl has won every time. The Chiefs have been the better team in the series, winning six of the last nine, and have covered the spread in seven of the last nine meetings while also having been the better team at covering the spread this season with a record of 12-7-1 ATS overall and 3-0 ATS in the playoffs while the 49ers are 9-10 ATS overall and 0-2 ATS in the playoffs.
That said, we think KC has played a little over their heads and a little luck has played a factor towards the end of the year. I expect the San Francisco 49ers will win the Super Bowl which is why I am taking the moneyline in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday evening.
Spooky Express Pick: San Francisco 49ers ML (-130)
